John C. Martin, Judge, North Carolina Court of Appeals

John Martin (1943 – present) obtained his law degree from Wake Forest University in 1967. He served on the Durham City Council from 1975 to 1977. Martin became a judge for the 14th Judicial District of North Carolina’s superior court in 1977. From 1985 to 1988 and from 1993 to 2004 he was a judge on the North Carolina Court of Appeals. In 2004 he was appointed the appeals court’s chief judge, where he remains as of 2013. His many professional memberships include chairman of the North Carolina Judicial Standards Commission, member of the North Carolina Judicial Council, vice-president of the North Carolina Bar Association, and member of the Appellate Rules Study Committee.
