Doretta L. Walker, District Court Judge, 2010-Present

Doretta Walker is a current district court judge, elected to the position in 2010. She obtained her law degree from the University of the North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1993 and worked for Carolina Legal Assistance and as a judicial clerk for the North Carolina Court of Appeals. She was an assistant district attorney for Durham County before running for the judgeship.

Outside of the courtroom, Walker employs her expertise in the classroom and in the community. She teaches criminal justice at Durham Technical Community College and is a member of SALT (Seniors And Law Enforcement Together), educating senior citizens about issues pertaining to crime and victimization. She has been a long-time volunteer with Partners for Youth and has served on the boards of several nonprofits and professional associations.
